“Found
A Soul Mate”
By: Fahri Widyas Tanto.
I like solitude and I love
staying in my room reading books or listening to Jazz or New Age music. I get
to have a world of my own without the intrusion of others. I relish the moments
of insights as I agree with the thoughts of an author or meditate under the
tune of soft music. Yes, this is my world and I am loving it. When I first set
my eyes on the title in the library prior to borrowing it, I thought the title
was plain, simple and almost self explanatory. I did not know what attracted me
to the book but somehow, I was mesmerized by it. I didn’t know what
effects the content of the book would have on me but I loved it anyway.
Psychology is never my forte but still, the title held my interest. Perhaps
this is preordained. I do not know. I have a strange feeling about this book.
As mentioned, I am not new to books. I have read books of almost every topic
available but most merely increase my knowledge. This title is different. It mesmerized
me like never before. I placed the book on the table and flipped to the first
page. The sentence stared back at me and I felt a sense of anticipation. Change
my life? How is that possible?
I began to read the first
paragraph. From that day on, I began to practice my observation skills.
And I began to notice things I have never noted before the type of clothes
that others wear, the color of the tie that matches a shirt, the different type
of greeting gestures that others display, the various types of smiles that
either reveal or hide emotions. And through these, I began to map out the
various perceptions I have of them, as well as having a good gauge of the
perceptions held by them. In other words, I began to understand the worlds of
others and how my world relates to theirs. Over time, I began to connect with
them psychologically, but not in a interpersonal kind of way, if you know what
I mean.
Then one day, it happened. I was
sitting on a seat in a train when I noticed that a lady dressed in a yellow
dress was seated across from me. She is in her early twenties. Her yellow dress
was prominent but that was not what attracted my attention. Rather,
it’s the ruby necklace she wore that was interesting. I have seen that
necklace before, at a jewelry store. It was from Paris, France. I always have
an interest in stones, and ruby is among them. I was beginning to understand that
sentence. The lady suddenly noticed me looking at her and she returned the
gaze, smiling while doing so. It was awkward to have somebody looking at
me with interest as that has not happened to me for quite a while. But the
distance between us was far. There are many passengers standing and moving
along in the train and our eye contact is constantly being cut intermittently
by the passing bodies. I noticed that she has the tendency to look away and
then back at me again, as if we are caught in a game of hide-and-seek. It
was not long before I did the same. The passing crowd between us becomes our
hiding posts and for a while.
A connection is not deliberate. A connection
just happens. There are people whom we are meant to meet in this life but we
have to notice them through our astute observation if we are to really meet
them. Placing your eyes on the pages of your book won’t do. Closing your eyes
and listening to the music blasting out of your earphones is worse. Open your
eyes and look around. See who is attracted to you and why you are sustaining
their attention. That is the point.
As the train neared my stop, I
stood up sadly and headed for the exit door to her right. How many times
have I brushed shoulders with someone whom I have a connection with but never
have the opportunity to connect? It’s uncountable. I sighed with disappointment
with my eyes glazed over and looking at my own reflection in the glass panel in
front of me. And then the image of the lady appeared behind my left
shoulder, looking at me and smiling. I smiled back.
No matter how great is the possibility of an
encounter, there will come a point where you have to initiate contact. Shyness
will impede you at this stage. Hesitation will destroy your courage. Fear will
draw you back. Only confidence and a desire to know someone new will push
you. Finally, Jenny become my best friend and we still go out
often. I am not sure if I can call these dates but for now, I know that if I
had not put in the effort to read the book, I would never have found a soul
mate.

By: Iwan Haryono.
Do
you have previous experience? Is it Nice or bad experience? Experience is
something that happens in the pass. Experience divides two sides. The first one
is nice experience and second one is bad experience. I believe that everyone
has many experiences. As for me, I also have experience. In this writing I
would like tell to you my nice experience with my friends.
It
happened, when I was second semester in Muhammadiyah university of Metro. My
friends and I went to Merak Belatung beach. We went there by bus. On the way,
we saw many beautiful places, not only place but also things that made us so
impressing. One of my friend played guitar and we sang song. We were so happy
on the bus. In the middle way, we stopped in something place, because there
were our friend. Her name is Hamid, she got something problem with her stomach.
But it was not really serious and we continued our trip. Besides, we sang song.
We also talked until we laugh, because we saw hamid’s face that looked so
awful.
Arriving
at Merak Belatung beach, we did not know, what we should do, because we were
impressing with the beauty of Merak Belatung beach. We took some pictures with
many styles. There I found something place that made me impressing with this
place. It was Small Island. It looked so beautiful. Besides, we took the some
picture. Some of my friend played football in the beach. There were Nanda,
Miga, Ary, Zai, Fahry, Joko and Novrianda. After we played football, we swam.
It was so fresh. The water was so cool, although the weather was so hot. But it
was not impeded us to swim on the beach.
The
time showed at 12. 30 p.m. We took lunch together. This moment did not
forgotten, because we could spend our time together. It was seldom, we did
before. I thought it was so sweet lunch. After we got lunch we continued to
swim again. Some of my friend played sand and made something liked a castle,
not only made something but also wrote something on sand. After we felt
satisfied to play in the beach, we decided to go back to home. We were so tired,
so on the bus we did not do anything. We just slept until we arrived in campus
again. In short, our vacation was so impressing for us and it was never
forgotten. We enjoyed all activities there until we felt so tired. We played
football, not only played football but also swam on the beach. And we enjoyed
on the way. We played guitar and we sang song. Once more our vacation made us
impression.

“New
Year In Bandung”
By:
Novrianda.
New
Year is the time at which a new calendar year begins and the calendar’s year
count is incremented. In many cultures, the event is celebrated in some manner.
The New Year falls on 1st January, but there are numerous calendars
that remain in regional use that calculate it differently. Most New Year celebrations
focus on family and friends. Most people
celebrate New Year with fireworks and BBQ party. Here is my story about my past
new year in Bandung.
Last
two years, my family and I went to Cimahi, Bandung. There we visited my aunt’s
house to celebrate New Year together. We arrived there exactly at the last day
on December, and then we prepared to celebrate it. My aunt had planned to go to
hot water pool before we celebrated together at her house. and all of us agreed that it was a nice
planning. It was located in Cipanas, Bogor. My family and my aunt’s family
started to go to the swimming pool in the afternoon because my family and I
arrived there in the morning. All of us went to the pool by two cars. Our cars
were trapped by the rain on the way to Cipanas’s hot water pool. Even though we
were trapped by the rain, we still enjoyed our trip.
The
day was our lucky because we arrived there after the rain had stopped. Arrived
there, we bought some tickets; the ticket was more or less Rp. 25.000 per
ticket. There was no cool water in the pool at all. Our family had eaten before
swam to the swimming pool. We took some photographs there. The pool closed at
night because there are many people visit until night and the water is still
hot. Then we decided to back to my aunt’s house at night, about 7.30pm. We
enjoyed our time there. On the way to her house, we bought some sweet potatoes.
They call it by Ubi Cilembu. Our cars were also trapped by long traffic jam
there. My watch didn’t show at 00:00 yet but I saw many beautiful fireworks
crossed the dark sky. It changed the sky into colorful sky. It was my best trip
ever.
Arrived
at her house, we prepared to celebrate the New Year. My uncle had made some
roasted corn and grilled fish before time showed at 00:00. After the time had
showed at 00:00 we set off our fireworks. I saw many people did the same. The
sky became colorful and it was the beautiful sky ever. In short, my family
visited my aunt’s house to celebrate the New Year. We went to hot water pool
and celebrated it by made some roasted corn and grilled fish. The New Year’s
sky was the beautiful sky ever. It was my best new year ever.

“Celebration Of Independence Day”
By: Novita Heliana.
The
most important day which I remember in Senior High School is the day when my
friends and I celebrate the independence day in our school. It was the
seventeenth of August, 2009, three months before I was eighteen years old.
There were many kinds of competitions which very interesting. On the morning of
that eventful day, I prepared all of the things that I really need. They were a
long black T-shirt, black shoes, a black veil, black trousers, and the most
significant thing was a red waist coat. My friend and I had to look for the
materials of that waist coat first. And
then, we brought them to a tailor. The tailor made it well. Furthermore,
I wore a red waist coat in my class. I did it because I had to shy if I wore it
at home and most of people who looked at me would laugh about it. A girl
with black clothes and red waist coat in
the morning day. I could not imagine what was they thought about. After I have
dressed up, I began to make a formation with my friends. I called it as a black
formation because all of us wore the black clothes. The next activity was
surrounding the street with a long distance. I was so tired cause of it. Then,
we took a rest for a minute and took a photo with our lovely teachers. Besides
this competition, there was an interesting contest. That was a dance competition.
It was interesting because all of the participants were boys. And the funniest
one was they dressed up like girls, even there were a group of boys who was
really like a group of girls. They wore girls’ T-shirts and accessories. They
made us laugh. And, for the surprise, we became the winner of dance
competition. Overall, that event is interesting. Besides to celebrate the
independence day, it is used to make us be gather. I cannot forget it. And I
think that not only me, but also my friends do. It is one of best moments in my
