“Cause And Effect Of Floods”
By: Fahri Widyas Tanto.
A flood is a very large number
or amount of water that rises and spreads. A stream, river, or lake floods when
water overflows beyond its banks. Flooding waters cover land that is usually
dry. Floods have been a part of life at all ends of the earth, they occur in
forests, mountains, and even deserts. They can even happen any time of the
year, not just in winter. This essay will investigate the causes and effects of
the floods. A flood that rises and falls rapidly with little or no advance
warning is called a flash flood. They are usually the result from intense
rainfall over a relatively small area. Streams and rivers periodically flood
and the adjacent dry lands that are covered are called flood plains. As for me,
there are some causes of floods.
First, heavy rains and fast melting
snow masses. Coastal areas are occasionally flooded by unusually high tides
caused by severe winds over the ocean surfaces, or by tsunamis resulting from
undersea earthquakes. Coastal flooding can also be caused by intense rain squalls
that accompany a hurricane. Second, the cause of flooding is when a lot of rain
falls in a few days. The ground becomes so wet that no more rain can trickle
through the earth. This rain runs into the rivers and the water level quickly
becomes much higher. The river cannot cope with this extra water and the water
breaks over the river banks. The third cause of flooding are hurricanes,
cyclones, and typhoons. They can cause floods. These are very strong winds
which form over the seas and blow towards coastlines. The winds make the waves
in the sea much higher. The waves then crash onto the beach and flood the flat
land by the coast. Forth, Earthquakes also make possible flooding by shaking
the earth causing tsunamis. The tsunamis are big waves that travel towards the
shore and flood the flat coastal land. Unusually high tides in spring can
influence floods by an estuary. High waves, caused by the high tide, rush up
the river estuary. There is too much water in the river so the surrounding land
is flooded when the river banks burst.
Finally dam failure can be the
producer of a flood. If engineers do not open enough of the dam holes in times
of heavy rainfall, the water can then spill over the top of the dam. Those are
the causes and the effect of flood. The effects of a flood can be seen
everywhere afterwards. There can be broken roads and railway lines, wrecked
houses, electricity and gas supplies can be cut off, trees fall over, and
bridges can even break. There are also a few other effects from floods,
diseases, people and animals killed, crushed crops, smashed cars, and
electrical items like computers and TV's can be ruined.

“Effect Of Junk Food”
By: Iwan Haryono.
Junk food is often high in sugar, salt, white flour, and
fat, particularly saturated
fat.
It is often heavily processed and prepackaged, making it easy to prepare and
consume. A few examples of foods often considered to be junk
food include fast food,
sweets such as ice cream, candy, donuts, and prepackaged treats, soda, and
potato chips, among many others. Most people have no trouble identifying junk food; it is when
they want to stop eating junk
food that the trouble starts. Here are the facts
about how excessive junk food consumption affects for our body.
The
first one
effect of eating junk
food is its impact on energy levels. Junk food
doesn't contain the nutrients our
body needs to stay healthy. As a result, we
may feel chronically fatigued and lack the energy you need to complete daily activities. The high levels of
sugar in junk food put our
metabolism under stress,
when we
eat refined sugar; we
pancreas secretes high amounts of insulin to prevent a dangerous spike in blood
sugar levels. Because fast
food and junk food don't contain adequate amounts of protein and good
carbohydrates, our
blood sugar levels will drop suddenly after eating, leaving, feeling grumpy,
fatigued and craving sugar.
The second one effect of eating junk food is Junk Food Contributes to Poor Performance and
Obesity. Junk
food contains large amounts of fat, and as fat accumulates in our body, we will get weight, not only weight but also obese.
Besides, we will be at risk for serious
chronic illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease and arthritis.
The third one effect of eating junk food is Junk food can damage our liver
and
our heart. The high levels of fat and sodium in
junk food and fast food can contribute to heart disease by raising blood
cholesterol levels and contributing to arterial plaque buildup. The high levels of fatty acids find in junk foods and fast foods
can lead to fatty liver deposits, which can cause liver dysfunction and
disease.
Even in the short term, eating
too much junk food can make us
feel really uncomfortable. It can
distrub our health like, lower our enrgy level, make us obese, can demage our
liver and heart. In the short term, high levels of dietary fat lead to
poor cognitive performance. We will
feel tired and have trouble concentrating because our body might not be getting enough
oxygen.

“Stop
Global Warming”
By:
Novrianda.
Global
warming is the process wherein the average temperature of the Earth's near
surface air increases, owing largely to various anthropogenic activities.
Though there are some natural causes for this rise in temperature, they stand
to be insignificant when compared to the anthropogenic causes. Understanding
global warming causes and effects can give us a brief idea of the dreadful
phenomena our future generations may have to face. Here are some of the
prominent global warming causes and effects.
Natural
causes of global warming include the release of methane gas from arctic tundra
and wetlands, climate change, volcanoes etc. Methane, a greenhouse gas which
traps the heat within the earth's atmosphere, is let out in large quantities in
the arctic tundra and wetlands. In case of volcanoes, when a volcano erupts,
tons of ash is let out into the atmosphere. Even though nature contributes to
global warming, this contribution is very insignificant when compared to human
contribution for this hazard.
Anthropogenic
causes for global warming are those which are caused due to human activities.
The most prominent cause being man-made pollution. A large part of this
pollution can be attributed to the burning of fossil fuels. This includes
burning coal to produce electricity as well as burning gasoline to power
internal combustion engine vehicles. Humans breathe out carbon dioxide, and
with an increasing population, the amount of carbon dioxide humans breathe out
also increases and leads to global warming.
According to scientist research,
the planet has witnessed a 35 percent rise in global carbon dioxide emissions
due to the burning of fossil fuels. The rate at which the Greenland ice cover
is melting has increased by over 70 percent in the last 5 years. The effects of global warming range from
a rise in sea levels to the extinction of certain species of flora and fauna.
Basically, global warming means an increase in temperature of the Earth's
atmosphere.
As
the temperature will increase, the ice cover on the planet will start melting.
The water from these melting glaciers will end up in the oceans, which will
lead to a rise in the sea level. If the whole of the Antarctic ice sheet melts,
the global sea level is expected to rise by 10.5 meters.
A
rise in global temperature will also hamper the rich biodiversity of various
ecosystems. Climate change
will result in loss of habitat for many animal species like polar bears and
tropical frogs. More importantly, any change in the climate patterns will
seriously affect the migration patterns of various bird species. Irregular
patterns of precipitation will affect animals and humans alike.
These
were just a few of the numerous global warming causes and effects. Many people
argue that global warming is a slow process, and will take centuries for all
these devastating effects to take place. But they forget that the factors which
cause global warming are rapidly rising. We may not live to face the dreaded
consequences of global warming, but if we don't act fast, it will be our future
generations who will have to bear the brunt.

“ILLEGALOGING”
By: Mery Meliyana.
Many
people have done illegaloging. Many of them have done it for their self. They do not think about the effect
from it. Illegaloging has many negative effects for our life. Firstly, flood is
one of natural disaster which often happen in this
world, like in Jakarta. There are often event of flood on every year. Flood
cause problem for our healthy. One of them is skin disease. This case is cause from mouse’s
urine. Urine from the mouse is very danger for the people. Because it has many
disease there who can cause
the problem healthy. Besides, flood always bring a dust, like rubbish. There
are many bacteria there. It is very horrible. Many people become sick, when the flood come. And then,
flood can also make our tools in the house become broken. Because there are
always inundated with of water. Water from flood has muddy colour. And there
are many bacteria, and to have many disease there, which can make the people
become sick. So, it is not good for our life, and this is very harmful.
Secondly, the effect from illegaloging is a
globalworming. Globalworming is other of natural diseaster. It happened,
because many people which do illegaloging without do reboisation. Whereas, the
forest is lungs of the world. If the illegaloging do continually manner, it can
make the ozone lining become thin. Because there are not tree which absorb of
hot from the sun light. It can the effect globalworming event. Then,
globalworming can cause the weather is so hot. It is not good for our life and
our healthy. If there are many trees, this thing do not happen. And then,
globalworming is very danger for our body. Because it can cause the people get
skin cancer. It is a seriouse problem in our life.
Illegaloging has many negative effect for the people.
Because the forest is lungs of the world. So, it is very important for our
life. Because without it, we are going to get many problem in our life. And
then, the effect from illegaloging are flood, globalworming, and etc. It is
very danger for us, and if this is do continually manner, we will get big
problem cause it. It can make the earth become broken. So, we have to care with
our natural.

“Using Mobile Phones For Young
Children At School”
By: Iqolimatul Aisah.
Why
young children are forbidden to use mobile phones at school? Although cell
phones has banned in school, parents are often among the most vocal advocates
for students to have the technology in schools. Parents want to reach their
children and say they feel safer knowing their children can reach them for any
reason. However, schools have identified some reasons why cell phones are not
conducive to an educational environment.
Firstly,
the ring of cell phones are a huge distraction in class. Even if teachers ask
students to turn off their phones, students may forget or overtly disobey the
teacher's request. Students who answer their phones are an even bigger
distraction. The student answering the phone distracts other students, and then
the time spent by the teacher disciplining the student presents another
distraction. Students may excuse themselves, saying they must use the bathroom,
but instead leave to make a phone call. This results in lost class time.
Another distraction is students who send text messages during class. They don't
pay attention and miss valuable information.
Secondly,
students can use cell phones to cheat on tests a couple ways. First, they can
store answers in the phones, covertly looking up the stored information during
tests. Second, they can sneak text messages to friends seeking answers to
questions of which they're not sure. Thirdly, students can take pictures of
tests and send them to classmates who are set to take the same test later on
during the day. Many students are very adept at using their phones and can text
without looking, making the policing of phones during test times difficult.
Students may take improper pictures of themselves or others and send the
photographs to friends. This can include students taking pictures of others
while changing in locker rooms, according to National School Safety and
Security Services. During a time of crises, cell phone networks can become
overloaded, making it impossible for school leaders, such as principals and
other school leaders, to use their cell phones. In short, the
young children are banned to bring mobile phone when they are in school.
Because some reasons above.

“The Causes Of Noise Pollution”
By: Novita Heliana
Everyone
know about pollution. But, not all of them know about all kinds of it. There
are different kinds of the pollution most of people just know about air and
water pollution. But, how about noise pollution ? Have you ever heard it ? It is one kind of pollution
which faced by most of people everyday. The noise pollution is defined as the
unwanted sound which is released into the environment. It disturb the human
being. There are some causes of noise pollution.
The first cause is traffic. It is
the biggest source of noise pollution in at present, especially in urban areas.
In the past few years the number of automobile vehicles has increased manifold.
Thus, traffic problems created by these vehicles is an important source of
noise pollution. The sound produced by the exhaust systems of trucks, autos,
buses, motorcycles, etc. cause a lot of noise. The second cause is railway Stations. Locomotive engines
of trains are an important source of noise pollution. Besides, the shunting and
switching operations in rail yards too cause noise pollution to a great extent.
The whistles and horns being used by the railway employees add to the effect
and increase noise pollution. The third cause is aircraft. The national parks and wastelands were earlier
considered to be the pollution free zones and people traveled to these places
for relaxation. Nowadays, however, the sound created by low flying military
aircraft causes noise pollution in these areas too. The next reason is industrial Noise. The various machines
used in industries are also a major cause of noise pollution. The different
machines which are responsible for creating noise include the compressors,
motors and other machinery. The other cause that include is construction equipment. The different
types of machines and equipment used in construction of roads and buildings is
also an important cause behind noise pollution. The machinery used for the
purpose of construction includes pneumatic hammers, bulldozers, air
compressors, dump trucks, loaders, sidewalk breakers, etc. is also responsible
for noise pollution to a great extent. Shortly,
noise pollution is one of the pollution which happen in our environment. It can
disturb in their daily, such as it bother someone to do something. It can cause
by some of factors, and some of them have explained before.

“The Effect Of Video Games For Brain”
By: Eka Muslima Wati.
The effect of video games on the brain
is a research area gaining popularity as the percentage of children and adults
who play video games is on the rise. Some people believe violence in video
games and in other media promotes violent behavior among viewers. While there
is not sufficient data to validate this claim, there are a number of studies
showing that video games can increase aggressive behavior and emotional
outbursts, and decrease inhibitions. From a few of these studies, and from my
own observations of children playing video games, it is quite obvious that the
video games do have at least some effect on the behavior of the player. The
extent and long range consequences of these behavior changes after one has
turned off the video game are not so easily deduced. One source states that
"While research on video games and aggressive behavior must be considered
preliminary, it may be reasonably inferred from the more than 1,000 reports and
studies on television violence that video game violence may also contribute to
aggressive behavior and desensitization to violence".
I had a chance to observe the effects of
video games first hand on two boys, ages eight and ten, when I babysat them
earlier in the semester. When the younger brother won, the older brother got up
and started kicking him and yelling insults! Later on that day, the younger
brother was playing another video game by himself and when he could not beat
the level, he threw down the controller and screamed at the TV screen,
"Why are you doing this to me...?!" and burst into tears. I was very
shocked by this reaction and was not quite sure how to handle the situation.
This game had brought an eight year old boy to tears, right in front of me.
"Certainly, video games can make some people go nuts. You just have to
look at some enthusiasts playing video games on their cellular phones, mumbling
to themselves heatedly even though others are around them. At game centers
(penny arcades), frustrated people punch or kick game machines without regard
to making a spectacle of themselves". Multiple
studies have reported that playing video games can significantly increase heart
rate, blood pressure, and oxygen consumption. If studies show that heart rate
is increased when playing video games, then it seems that the brain is
responding to the video game as if the body is in real danger. Does repeated
exposure to this "false" sense of danger have an effect on what the
brain then perceives as real danger?
From
the above studies and observations, video games do effect the players in some
ways, since it appears that players get so wrapped up in the game that they
forget their surroundings and begin to see the game as a real quest. Studies
have shown that playing video games can increase heart rate and blood pressure,
as well as decrease prefrontal lobe activity while the person is playing the
game. This could account for changes in the player's mood and cause him or her
to become more aggressive or emotional. However, the extent of these effects on
the body once video game playing has ceased are preliminary and need to be
confirmed.

“Effect Of Air Pollution”
By: Devicgo Martina.
Smog hanging over cities is the most
familiar and obvious form of air pollution. But there are different kinds of pollution
some visible, some invisible that contribute to global warming. Generally any
substance that people introduce into the atmosphere that has damaging effects
on living things and the environment is considered air pollution. Carbon
dioxide, a greenhouse gas, is the main pollutant that is warming Earth. Though
living things emit carbon dioxide when they breathe, carbon dioxide is widely
considered to be a pollutant when associated with cars, planes, power plants,
and other human activities that involve the burning of fossil fuels such
as gasoline and natural gas. In the past 150 years, such activities have
pumped enough carbon dioxide into the atmosphere to raise its levels higher
than they have been for hundreds of thousands of years.
Other greenhouse gases include methane
which comes from such sources as swamps and gas emitted by livestock and
chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), which were used in refrigerants and aerosol
propellants until they were banned because of their deteriorating effect on
Earth's ozone layer. Another pollutant associated with climate change is sulfur
dioxide, a component of smog. Sulfur dioxide and closely related chemicals are
known primarily as a cause of acid rain. But they also reflect light when
released in the atmosphere, which keeps sunlight out and causes Earth to cool.
Volcanic eruptions can spew massive amounts of sulfur dioxide into the
atmosphere, sometimes causing cooling that lasts for years. In fact, volcanoes
used to be the main source of atmospheric sulfur dioxide; today people are.
Industrialized countries have worked to
reduce levels of sulfur dioxide, smog, and smoke in order to improve people's
health. But a result, not predicted until recently, is that the lower sulfur
dioxide levels may actually make global warming worse. Just as sulfur dioxide
from volcanoes can cool the planet by blocking sunlight, cutting the amount of
the compound in the atmosphere lets more sunlight through, warming the Earth.
This effect is exaggerated when elevated levels of other greenhouse gases in
the atmosphere trap the additional heat. Most people agree that to curb global
warming, a variety of measures need to be taken. On a personal level, driving
and flying less, recycling, and conservation reduces a person’s "carbon
footprint" the amount of carbon dioxide a person is responsible for
putting into the atmosphere.
On a larger scale, governments are taking
measures to limit emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases. One
way is through the Kyoto Protocol, an agreement between countries that they
will cut back on carbon dioxide emissions. Another method is to put taxes on
carbon emissions or higher taxes on gasoline, so that people and companies will
have greater incentives to conserve energy and pollute less.

“Density On Individuals”
By: Dedek Rohana.
The world’s population rises by almost
80 million people each year, according to the population resource website
Population Connection. And with most of this population inhabiting relatively
small urban areas, it is not surprising that population density is a growing
cause of concern. Population density refers to the number of individuals living
in a particular area, divided by the total size of that area. And while there
are many negative impacts of high population densities, there are also a few
positive ones. An
individual living an area with a high population density will frequently be
making contact, intentionally or not, with the area’s other human inhabitants.
A city’s busy sidewalks, subways, buses, trains and office buildings all serve
as hubs for the transmission of bacteria, viruses and other disease-causing
agents. These also include invasive pests like bed bugs, which people carry
around unwillingly on their clothes. A 1999 study by professor Patrick Maybery
Tarwater of the Texas Medical Center, which focuses on the infectious measles
virus, shows that “susceptible individuals” such as elderly individuals or
individuals with pre-existing conditions are more likely to catch contagious
diseases in areas with high population densities.
An increase in population density in an
area will lead to an increase in stress put on the individuals who live in that
area, according to the North Carolina Sociological Review. Long lines at
stores, cafes, restaurants, train terminals, subway stops and bus stops may all
contribute to such stress, as well as high levels of noise and high levels of
pedestrian, automobile and in some cities bicycle traffic. Fear of crime and
feelings of confinement or claustrophobia, due to the predominance of towering
buildings in densely populated areas, may also be contributing factors.
Whatever the cause, this increase in stress accounts for higher degrees of
social disorder and crime in densely populated areas in comparison to less
populated areas. While
all of that contact with other individuals may be a source of stress, and a
potential health risk, it can also lead to some positive outcomes.
As American Association of
Anthropological Genetics notes, high population densities can help spark your
creativity and the creativity of other individuals, which in turn can lead to
innovation. The close proximity of individuals in a densely-populated place
means that the people are more likely to come in contact with other people that
share their specific interests. This means that knowledge can easily spill over
between individuals through face to face interactions, and you can readily
share and, with the creative input of others, nurture and improve your ideas.

"Corruption
Is A Big Problem In The World"
By: M. Framiga Aditia.
That we know, corruption is a classic phenomenon
that has long existed and is believed by most experts as old as the
civilization of society. The term corruption is then by definition experts
formulated in accordance with the background from the rear of formulating the
definition. Although currently found many definitions of corruption which, if
seen from the structure of the language and delivery of different ways, but
essentially have the same meaning. Corruption has now become a serious threat
to endanger the life of the development of nations in the world and acts of
corruption should be classified as a crime against the welfare state and nation.
In the world, corruption has been culture from every country, such as
Indonesia. Indonesia becomes the second country after USA that has big
corruptor. Now, in this writing for the first I would like to
present the reason why corruption becomes big problems. Causes of corrupt
practices, namely: the weakness of moral, economic pressures, the
administrative structure barriers, barriers of social structure. Corruption as
a behavior of individuals who use power and position in order to extract personal
gain, harm the public interest and the state. Corruption is a symptom of abuse
and mismanagement of power, for personal gain, mismanagement of natural
resources and state by using powered formal authority (e.g. with legal reason
and force of arms) to enrich themselves. It was evidence law in the every
country still low, so give a doubt for corruptor. Then, an official is said to
perform acts of corruption when he received a gift from someone who aims to
influence him to take a decision favorable to the interests of the gift giver.
Sometimes people are offering a reward in the form of fringe benefits is also
included in the corruption. In the second, I would like to explain about effect
from corruption. I think that that the act of corruption has resulted in
disharmony and disintegration of the nation, both based on the group / class or
according to culture and increasingly wide socio-economic gap between the
various layers of society. Another consequence resulting from an act of
corruption is the instability of government, the social revolution and the rise
of social inequality culture. Then, corruption can also result in inefficient
government services, to society, injustice in the life of the state, the waste
of resources of the country; people do not trust the government and political
instability. In the other opinion said that, causes of corrupt practices,
namely: the weakness of moral, economic pressures, the administrative structure
barriers, barriers of social structure. The third section, I would like to talk about how to
delete corruption as a culture in every country. The former, formulation of
legislation must be perfect. Second, the Administration is fast, inexpensive,
and flexible. Third, delete the tradition to supplement their incomes is less
than government officials with a tribute or bribe with work hard. Fourth,
people respect the official rules and purposes of government organizations. Ultimately, the eradication of corruption in
Indonesia should be done. Moreover, the facts prove that corruption in
different segments in the life of her community, her nation and state were in
Indonesia, up to now still persisted and deepened. Eradication of corruption
will not bring optimal results, if only done by government and other formal
instruments, without including the people who are victims of postscript policy
handful of people.
